Knights Split the Day Against the Argos

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 15th, 2024

Great Falls, Mont.| The Knights made the long drive to Great Falls, Montana to face the University of Providence.

Game One
The Knights gave up a run in the first inning to the Argos and went quiet offensively until the fifth inning when the Knights banged in 3 huge runs taking a 3-1 lead. The inning gained momentum after Nikki O'Reilly and Kassidie Bukoski walked putting runners on first and second base. Mailli Bode moved the runners up when she grounded out to first helping out the cause. Jordan Rosario then came up and with one swing of the bat tied the game singling to left field scoring O'Reilly from third. Nia Tate was up next and she moved the runners up station to station again scoring Bukoski from third and moving Rosario to second. Maddie Gamble topped the inning off with a single to center field scoring Rosario from second. This capped off the three run inning giving the Knights their first lead of the game.

The Knights gave up a run in the bottom half of the fifth making the score 3-2. The score held the rest of the way even when Providence made a little noise in the seventh. The Argos had a base hit with one out and then the next batter hit a ball to Kili Makanani at shortstop who went to Rosario at second for the force out leaving a runner on first base with two outs. The final batter for the Argos fought hard with a 3-2 count fouling off a few pitches but then flied out to left field to end the game giving the Knights the 3-2 victory.

Briana Munoz got the start today and pitched an absolute gem of a ballgame. She went all seven innings only giving up seven hits, two runs both earned, struck out five Argos, and didn't allow any walks.

The Knights only had four hits in the game but those four hits were enough to best the Argos who had seven hits themselves. Nia Tate had two hits, Jordyn Rosario had one, and Maddie Gamble had the last hit for the Knights.

Game Two
The second game today was a long one that went 9 innings ending with the Knights falling by a final score of 3-2. The Knights just like the first game didn't put a run across until the fifth inning when they platted a pair to go up 2-1.  Maddie Gamble had the first RBI singling to right field scoring Lauren Amesquita who had pinch-ran for Nia Tate. The second run for the Knights was scored on a wild pitch by the Argos pitcher plating Kassidie Bukoski from third.

Providence tied the game in the sixth inning scoring a run. Nobody scored in the seventh which sent the game into extra innings. After nobody scoring in the eighth inning, Providence broke the tie in the bottom half of the ninth inning when an Argos batter put the ball in play forcing an error by Knights second baseman, Kylie Lester which sent in the winning run for the Argos.

Abby Carlson pitched the whole game today and pitched very well. Carlson gave up 10 hits but only allowed three runs with just two of them being earned. Carlson walked one batter and struck out an impressive seven. Argos pitcher, Madi Moore pitched the entire game as well and struck out an impressive 19 Knights hitters. Moore also was the one who scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

This marks the second time in the last eight days that the Knights have been walked off in extra innings.
