Knights Lose Final Two Games of 2024 Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 27th, 2024

Springfield, Ore.| The Knights finished their season today against Bushnell University at Rich Schwab Field in front of a solid Senior Day crowd.

Game One
The first game was a beautifully played game by both teams but unfortunately saw the Knights fall in the bottom of the seventh inning on a walk-off base hit to right field. The Knights drew first blood in the top of the third inning when Kili Makanani nailed a solo shot to the pull side down the left field line. It was her second home run of the season with her first one coming back on March eighth up in Vancouver, BC. The Beacons fought back and tied the game up in their half of the third inning.

The Knights came back right away and re-took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a bases loaded walk drew by Makanani which plated Marin Bliss. Once again, the Beacons fought back in their half of the inning tying the game at two apiece. No runs were scored again until the bottom of the seventh when the Beacons second baseman sent the Beacon faithful to the in-between games break happy nailing a solid single to right winning the game.

Game Two
The second game proved to be a well-played game once again by both teams. The Knights broke the seal in the first inning when catcher, Maddie Gamble, hit a sharp single to score Nikki O'Reilly. The Knights scored their final run of the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly hit by Kili Makanani plating Kassidie Bukoski. Bukoski had a great play in this game on a fly ball to right field that she had to slide and make an amazing catch on to end the third inning. Bukoski then led off the very next inning and hit a base hit through the left side of the infield.

The Beacons didn't score until the bottom of the sixth inning but they made up for lost time plating five in the frame to take a 5-2 lead that they didn't look back on.

Next Up
The Knights will go into the offseason now and continue to improve. The team finished with a record of 5-35 overall including 4-23 in conference. The program made big strides this year and head coach, Ashton Porter knows it. "This season has been one to remember. A season with so much growth, hard work and family. Every person in our lineup stepped up to new challenges and all of the roster was bought into changing this program. People were able to find themselves and the love for softball again and that was a huge goal for this season. Strides were taken and we are so proud of the direction that we are headed for next season!"

They had some great moments this year and really did improve drastically this year from last season. They will continue to improve and will be ready to go next season.
