Knights Move to 2-0 With Huge Win Over Simpson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 24th, 2024

Portland, Ore.| The Knights played an inspired brand of soccer today in a huge 2-1 win over Simpson University today out at Eastside Timbers Complex.

The Knights and the Red Hawks both played great defense in the first half, not allowing many opportunities. Finally, the Knights broke the seal when Shalece Easley took the game in her hands in the 34th minute streaking almost the full length of the pitch and then sniped a shot from about 10 yards over the outstretched arms of the Simpson goalkeeper. It was Shalece's second goal of the year and it was from a similar location as the first one.

Simpson threatened late in the first half and found the back of the net however it was called as offsides negating the goal sending the game to the half with the Knights up 1-0. The Knights had a huge goal in the 59th minute on a penalty kick put in by Gema Granados that proved to be a very important goal when the Red Hawks scored in the 64th minute.

The Knights after today have made five goals in just two games on the young season. Last year, the Knights made 12 total. The squad has now won their first two games of the season for the second straight year tying their mark set last year for the most games won in a row to start a season.

Head Coach, Justan Wolvert, was understandably very excited after watching what transpired today. "Today was a hard-fought game against a quality opponent," Wolvert said. "We communicated well and stayed organized defensively. We were dynamic in the attack and were dangerous throughout. Our confidence and trust in each other are growing each day. We'll rest up and spend the day enjoying this victory and are looking forward to our next challenge this Wednesday against another good team."

Next Up
The Knights will look to build on their momentum with a game against Ottawa University Arizona out at Eastside Timbers Complex on Wednesday the 28th of August at 6pm.
