Knights Play Solid First Half Against 4th Ranked SOU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 11th, 2025

Portland, Ore.| To end an unfortunate weekend, the Knights women's basketball team fell to Southern Oregon 87-56.

The Raiders had the Knights number early on putting up 20 in the first quarter. However the Knights were able to battle back and only trailed by a score of 38-29 at half. In the second half, the Raiders put up a total of 49 points and didn't look back, but yet positives were seen from the Knights.

On the offensive side of the ball the Knights shot an amazing 83% from the line. They also made four threes and 21 of their field goal attempts. On the defensive side of things the Knights out rebounded the Raiders with 31. They also created 10 second chance points and caused nine Raider turnovers. The downfall for the Knights came from turnovers of their own as they had 24 throughout the game.

Two players stood out for the Knights individually. The first is Senior Emily Fortin who scored 19 which marked her 100th point as a Warner Pacific Knight. The second was Graduate Student McKeeley Tonkin who had 18 points with three assists.

"This game will be an interesting one to watch back," Jimmy Smith said. "As coaches, we like to say the score does not reflect the game but I truthfully believe in that extra tonight. When you're down six midway through the third quarter and an untimely injury occurs, it has the chance to pop the bubble. Unfortunately it did tonight. I'm excited for us and our future."
