The Knights Play Inspired Third Set in 3-0 Loss to Bushnell

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 10, 2026

Eugene, Ore.| The Warner Pacific University women's volleyball team continued Cascade Collegiate Conference play Friday afternoon, traveling to Eugene to take on Bushnell University at the Morse Center. The Knights showed their strongest fight late in the match, but the Beacons came away with the straight-set victory, 25-16, 25-10, 25-21.

Warner Pacific came out battling in the opening set and quickly responded after Bushnell scored the first two points. Mia Carman put the Knights on the board with a kill before delivering a service ace as part of a four-point WPU run that gave Warner Pacific a 4-2 advantage. Daisci Burrows, Josie Schultz, Tayah-Anne Toa, Naomi Johnson and Allison Dorigo all contributed kills as the Knights remained within striking distance through the early portion of the frame.

The Beacons eventually found separation, turning an 11-13 Warner Pacific deficit into a larger advantage before closing out the opening set, 25-16. Despite dropping the frame, the Knights produced their most efficient offensive set of the match with 10 kills and a .167 hitting percentage.

Warner Pacific stayed close early in the second set. A kill from Carman opened the Knights' scoring before Toa brought WPU within one at 4-5. The Knights then pulled even at 5-5 following a Bushnell attack error caused by a block from Carman and Johnson. Johnson later added a kill to make it 6-7, but the Beacons responded with a lengthy run and went on to take the second set, 25-10.

The Knights put together their best stretch of the afternoon in the third set. Trailing 4-2, Warner Pacific rattled off five consecutive points to take a 7-4 lead, with Burrows recording a kill during the run. Another Burrows kill pushed the advantage to 8-5 before Bushnell eventually battled back and moved in front.

Warner Pacific refused to go away late. Facing a 22-15 deficit, the Knights put together another strong push behind kills from Johnson and Carman along with several Bushnell errors. WPU cut the deficit to 23-20 and later fought off match point to make it 24-21 before the Beacons secured the final point for the 25-21 victory.

Burrows led the Warner Pacific attack with seven kills on 15 attempts while hitting .333, while also contributing six assists and three digs. Carman finished with five kills, five digs and the Knights' lone service ace, while Johnson and Schultz each added four kills. Amor Rapoza directed the offense with a team-high 15 assists, while Madison Flores led Warner Pacific defensively with six digs.

As a team, Warner Pacific finished with 24 kills, 23 assists and 24 digs. The Knights' late push highlighted a competitive third set as WPU continued its conference schedule on the road.
