Knights Fall to Corban 2-1 at Eastside Timbers Complex

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 4th, 2026

Portland, Ore.| The Warner Pacific University men's soccer team hosted their second match of the weekend this time against Corban University. The Knights would drop a hard-fought 2-1 decision against Corban University.

Despite outshooting the Warriors and controlling long stretches of the second half, the Knights were unable to overcome two late tallies from Corban before finding a late consolation goal.

Warner Pacific dominated the shot total early on, outshooting Corban 12-4 in the opening 45 minutes and forcing three saves from Warrior's goalkeeper Rylan Davidson. However, neither side was able to break through, sending the match into halftime locked in a 0-0 deadlock.

The action surged late in the second half. Corban broke the scoreless tie in the 76th minute when Aaron James finished off a pass from Abraham Lopez to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage. The Warriors then doubled their lead in the 87th minute on a strike from Alvaro Castellon at 86:32.

Warner Pacific responded immediately, pulling within one just 14 seconds later at 86:46 when Luis Wicho Gonzalez found the back net on a penalty kick for his first goal of the season. The Knights pressed furiously in the final minutes to capture the equalizer, but Corban held on to secure the victory.

Warner Pacific finished with 23 total shots and nine shots on target, compared to 13 shots and three on goal for Corban. The Knights also earned nine corner kicks, matching the Warriors' nine attempts.

Wicho led the Warner Pacific attack with a game-high five shots and two on goal, including the successful penalty conversion. Kevil Marin-Mendez and Ethan Zavala added pressure with three shots and two on target apiece, while Mario Jauregui-Vallarta shot four shots. In goal, Owen Purvis played the full 90 minutes and recorded one save.

"We suffered another frustrating result today despite all of our possession and shots," head coach Troy Ready said. "If we had won, we'd be back to work this week looking to improve. The same must be true with a loss. Back to work this week looking to improve."
