Mitchell Thoma-Britt Has Huge Day in Losses to Whitman College

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 14th,  2025

Portland, Ore.| Warner Pacific Knights Baseball played in their home opener this morning in a doubleheader against Whitman College. Despite a strong fight, the Knights fell in both games by scores of 10-9 and 6-2.

Game one
Whitman College got the scoring early in the third, on a big three-run bomb. Whitman extended the lead in the sixth on a two-run triple. In the bottom of the sixth, the Knights would get it going scoring two runs. In the top of the seventh, Whitman added a run, and then the Knights exploded in the bottom of the seventh ending where they would come back from the deficit scoring six runs. Whitman would tie the game in the 8th inning and take the lead in the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, the Knights had a chance to take the lead and would score a run but couldn't finish the job taking the loss.

Offensively, Warner Pacific was sparked by Mitchell Thoma-Britt, who delivered a huge performance with three hits including two triples and earned five RBIs for his troubles. Donny Tober kept Warner within reach, throwing six innings but the bullpen struggled to contain Whitman's late offense which ultimately proved to be the difference against Whitman College.

Game Two
The scoring for this game started in the bottom of the first when the Knights scored one run. The ballgame was quiet until the fifth when Whitman College responded with their own two runs. The Knights would quickly tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, and then the scoring stopped for both sides the rest of the way sending the game into extra innings. Unfortunately, it was Whitman College's offense who would come to life, helped out by some shaky pitching from the Knights, scoring four runs to win the ball game.

Offensively, Warner Pacific put together several quality at-bats and finished with nine hits. Cesar Rodriguez, Skyler Roque-Sunahara, and Zane Winter each had multi hit days. Rodriguez and Colin Schiller each drove in runs. Starting hurler, Ayden Yaeger kept the Knights in the game with seven innings of two-run baseball and five strikeouts, building off his last outing. The Knights bullpen struggled to contain Whitman's late rally which allowed  Whitman College to pull away in the closing innings.

Next Up
The Knights have a chance to tie up the series as they face Whitman College once again tomorrow morning in another doubleheader. Tomorrow's games will start at 11am and 2pm once again at home at Milwaukie High School.
