FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 15th, 2025
Portland, Ore.| Warner Pacific Knights Baseball played in a doubleheader against Whitman College and took both games with the scores of 1-0 and 14-6.
Game One
The one run this ball game came off the bat of Giovanny Avillar in the bottom of the third. This run was the deciding factor for the Knights. Whitman was clawing away at times with six hits and drawing walks, but couldn't put it together.
Warner Pacific's pitching staff carried this game led by starter Jaxon Hamada who threw six shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out four to earn the win. In the the top of the seventh, the Knights made history as Hank Kern would come in to pitch being the first lefty in the New Era of Knights Baseball to throw and would dominate throwing 1.2 innings of shutout ball with a strike out. Connor Hale threw a scoreless ninth for the save. Offensively, Alvillar had the biggest swing with the decisive RBI while Skyler Roque-Sunahara and Jarrod Seibel each had one hit.
Game Two
This game was a completely different story than game one with lots of action on both sides. Warner Pacific set the tone with a four-run first inning and added two more in the second. The Knights continued to build the lead with single runs in the fourth and seventh plus a massive six-run fifth inning. Whitman tried to chip away, scoring in the third, fifth, and sixth, but after falling behind in the first, the Knights took over with a big day on offense.
Warner Pacific's offense was powered by Mitchell Thoma-Britt, who scored four times and launched a home run while driving in two. Connor Hale also had a great game finishing with two hits, three runs, and two RBI's. Hank Kern added two hits and an RBI, along with these hitters the lineup up and down was working counts and drawing walks. On the mound, Mason Deverna earned the win with 5.1 innings and seven strikeouts, while Brady Windham and Jacob Quinlan combined to close the game effectively and secure the Knight's win.
