Knights Battle Tough But Lose Two to the Warriors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 28th,  2025

Milwaukie, Ore.| Warner Pacific Knights Baseball played in a doubleheader against Lewis-Clark State College and lost both games despite tough battles. The final scores were 5-4 and 7-2 in favor of the Warriors.

Game One
Warner Pacific struck first in the fourth inning on a RBI single to score the opening run. Lewis-Clark State answered with a two-run fifth but once again the Knights would quickly respond, knotting the score with a solo home run hit by "The Captain" Mitchell Thoma-Britt. The game remained deadlocked through nine innings, and the game would go into extras. LC State would score in the tenth, and the Knights would stay alive tying the game. The key moment came in the 12th, when Lewis-Clark State capitalized on a defensive error to score two runs and Warner Pacific's one run in the bottom half wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

Offensively, Warner Pacific had 8 hits with Mitchell Thoma-Britt leading with a three-hit contest including his home run. Anthony Zisa had himself a two-hit game, including an RBI. The lineup struggled to string together hits leaving multiple runners left on base. On the mound, Donny Tober delivered an excellent start throwing eight strong innings while allowing just two runs and keeping the Knights in control for most of the night. Mason Deverna battled in relief but was hurt by late hits and defensive errors that led to the extra-inning damage. Despite strong pitching and at times strong hitting, Warner Pacific late miscues cost them this game.

Game two
Lewis-Clark State opened the scoring with a first-inning solo homer before adding another RBI single to make it 2–0. The game broke open in the fourth when the Warriors strung together multiple hits including a two-run single to push the lead to 5–0. Warner Pacific finally had enough in the bottom half of the fourth on a RBI single but Lewis-Clark State added insurance in the seventh with a triple, a run-scoring single, and the final fun came from a solo bomb from the Knights in the bottom of the seventh. Offensively, Warner Pacific struggled to generate consistent pressure, finishing with seven hits. Mason Deverona led with two hits with one RBI including his first home run of the season. Mitchell Thoma-Britt had yet another hit and a RBI. On the mound, Ayden Yaeger battled through six innings but was hurt by multiple hits and a big fourth inning that swung momentum. Jacob Quinlan provided relief but also allowed two runs as Lewis-Clark State continued to add on. Ultimately, Warner Pacific couldn't match the Warriors' early offensive output.

Next Up
The Knights now look to tomorrow as they will finish their four-game set against LC state. Both games will be at Milwaukie High School with a start time at 11am.
