Coach Howe enters his 9th season with the men’s basketball program and 4th as Associate Head Coach at Warner Pacific University. In eight seasons at WPU, coach Howe has helped the Knights to a record of 185 wins and 79 losses. During Howe’s tenure, WPU has seen seven 20-win seasons, seven top-three conference finishes, two league titles, a conference tournament title and seven National Tournament appearances.
Howe has played an essential role in developing the Warner Pacific defense which is known for its aggressive pressure schemes and relentless protection of the basket, forcing teams to play outside their comfort areas. The Knights ranked among many National and Cascade Conference leaders in several defensive categories, including opponents PPG, defensive field goal percentage, and defensive 3pt percentage. Additionally, the Knights are consistently among leaders in steals per game giving them a distinct advantage against their opponents.
From former head coach Bart Valentine:
“Garold has worked hand in hand with the head coach in recruiting, scouting, and game and practice preparation. He has been an invaluable member of the staff in all these areas. Not only has he brought a lot to our program, but he has learned a great deal also. From the beginning Garold has been preparing to be a head coach. He has thought as a head coach and has planned and prepared in that direction.”
From current head coach Jared Valentine:
“Garold has gained valuable experience in all areas of coaching including player development, recruiting, practice planning, film breakdown, and game preparation. In addition to Garold’s skills as a coach, he has also proven to have exceptional loyalty and character. Garold is dependable, honest, and trustworthy to follow through with his commitments. I have a high amount of trust in Garold, and this is an invaluable trait for a coach.”
Howe earned his Masters Degree in Management and Organizational Leadership from Warner Pacific in 2011.
Garold has been married to his wife Rochelle since 2008, and has three children ages 5 (Taylor), 3 (Harper), and Reese (newborn).
