KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech volleyball team picked up their first Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the season after sweeping Warner Pacific College tonight at Danny Miles Court 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-20).
Oregon Tech moved to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference standings, while Warner Pacific fell to 1-4 on the year and remains winless in CCC action at 0-4.
Behind Joey Parnell's eight kill outbursts in the opening set, the Owls rallied from down 0-2 out to a 5-2 advantage and never looked back. OIT doubled up the opponent at 12-6 and took their first double-digit advantage at 19-9 on the way to a 25-13 win in the opener.
The Owls once again jumped on top of WPC, 5-2, to open set 2, while a run of five gave the host team a 15-6 lead midway through. Warner responded with four-straight points of their own, but the Owls strung together four in a row to take a 19-10 lead. The teams would trade points until the end, as OIT took set 2 by a 25-17 final.
Set 3 continued to be more of the same, as Oregon Tech jumped out to a 10-3 advantage early. Warner Pacific would chip back and eventually close to within three points, 19-16, but that would be as close at the Knights would get as the Owls took the set and match.
Joey Parnell led the Tech offense with 14 kills, including eight in the opening set. Mindy Nalder and Kristen Walters followed with eight kills each, while Krystie Vea and Sarah Svedin totaled 10 digs apiece.
Kaylin Elms led the Knight offense with six kills, followed by five from Kim Mulka. Libero Jaclyn Chew-Dorsey led WPC with 13 digs in the loss.
