PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark used pressure defense and 22 offensive rebounds to defeat cross-town foe Warner Pacific, 74-55 tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.
The host Knights started the game on the right foot, taking a 15-9 lead midway through the first half after a
Chelsey Christensen layup. WPC would go scoreless over the next seven minutes however, and the Pioneers took advantage with an 11-0 run. L&C continued to make it difficult for the Knight offense the rest of the period, and enjoyed a 35-21 lead at the break.
Warner Pacific made some adjustments in the locker room, and chopped the Pioneer lead down to nine points (44-35) over the first six minutes of the second half. Lewis & Clark kept the Knights at arm's length with timely baskets and continued full court pressure, which ultimately forced WP into 19 turnovers on the night. A pair of
Lacy Wood free throws with 6:41 to play made the margin nine points once again (57-48), but six points from Kathlene Howe allowed the Pioneers to pull away down the stretch.
Christensen led Warner Pacific with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Kaylee Engen hit double figures with 10 counters.
Kristina Williams led L&C with a game high 24 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Katie Anderson added 18 points off the bench, which included 5 of 5 tries from the free throw line.
Warner Pacific falls to 2-2 on the young season, while the NCAA Div. III No. 10 ranked Pioneers improve to 3-0.
