Knight Women Defend Home Court, Defeat OIT 75-65

PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific used 59 percent shooting in the second half to surge past Oregon Tech for a 75-65 win in Cascade Conference play tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.

The host Knights (6-6, 2-2 CCC) fell behind 9-2 in the early going, but fought back and took the lead 15-13 with 8:20 to play on a Nichole Jackson score and foul shot. The visiting Owls (10-5, 3-2 CCC) surged back ahead and led 26-22 late in the half, but Jackson again drove to the rim, scored, and converted a foul shot to send WPC into the locker room with a 27-26 lead.

Warner Pacific scored the first seven points of the second half and did not trail again, as the Knights hit six of seven shots from behind the three point line. Chelsey Christensen caught fire for the Knights in the second period, scoring 23 of her 29 points after the break. Christensen gave WP their largest lead of the game (67-51) with a score in the paint at the 4:12 mark. OIT tried to rally with four free throws from Nicole Aboumrad and a trey from Tess Armstrong, but the Owls drew no closer than nine points down the stretch.

In addition to Christensen's 29, sophomore KayLee Engen scored a career high 16 points for WP and hit all four of her attempts from three point range. Christensen also led the Knights with 11 rebounds.

Karissa Dixon led Oregon Tech with 16 points on 8 of 14 shooting, while also passing for seven assists . Aboumrad added 15 points.
