PORTLAND, Ore. - The Warner Pacific women's basketball team defeated Walla Walla University in a rare afternoon game at
Bart Valentine Court today, 76-43.
The host Knights forced 34 turnovers by WWU, and held the visitors to 31 percent shooting from the field. WPC scored at a 56 percent rate, but gave back 26 turnovers of their own.
Warner Pacific jumped out to a 14-0 lead and led throughout, but Walla Walla rallied briefly to close within 17-12 with 8:12 remaining in the first half. Another 14-0 run which included nine straight points from
Chelsey Christensen pushed the Knight lead out to 31-14, but again the Wolves fought back to make the score 38-26 at halftime.
The second period belonged to WP, as the Knights held Walla Walla to 17 points after the break and went on to lead by as many as 35 points.
Christensen ended the night with 18 points for the Knights on 8 of 11 shooting, while
KayLee Engen added 16 points.
Abby Manzano scored 12 points off the bench to lead Walla Walla, and Nicolette Neel contributed 10 points.
The non-conference victory moves Warner Pacific's record to 11-8 overall, while Walla Walla fell to 5-18.
The Knights resume Cascade Conference play at rival Concordia tomorrow night at 5:30 pm.
