Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. -
Trisha Durham scored a pair of goals to send Warner Pacific past Northwest University 2-0 tonight at David Douglas High School.
The result is the first Cascade Conference win of the season for the Knights (2-7, 1-5 CCC), while the visiting Eagles (8-6-1, 4-1-1 CCC) were hit with their first CCC loss of the year.
Opportunities were few and far between in the first period, with each team attempting three shots. Warner Pacific converted one of their chances in the 28th minute as Durham ran onto a nice through ball from
Ashley Valencia and slotted home her third goal of the season.
Northwest was determined to even the score after halftime, and stepped up their pressure with eight shots in the period. The Knights absorbed the attacks from NU and snuck in a second goal in the 63rd minute. Valencia again found Durham with a pass through the middle, and this time Durham dribbled around NU keeper Patty Hughes and rolled the ball into an open net.
The Eagles sent players forward for the rest of the game, but WPC goalie
Allie Holterman was equal to the task. NU's Shea Samuleson ripped a free kick towards goal in the 73rd minute, forcing Holterman to punch over the crossbar. Acacia Johnson tried her luck in the 80th minute but her screamer was also batted away by Holterman, who earned her first shutout of the year.
COMING UP: Warner Pacific will host Evergreen on Friday the 26th at 6 pm, while Northwest will face #1 ranked Concordia on the same day.
