PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific scored five unanswered points in the final 90 seconds to hold off Evergreen 51-47 tonight in Cascade Conference women's basketball action.

A pair of free throws by Danielle Swain put the visiting Geoducks (5-13, 4-10 CCC) ahead 47-46 with 1:37 on the clock, but Evergreen would not score again. Melissa Carey played the hero for Warner Pacific down the stretch, scoring a pair of baskets sandwiched around a free throw from Chelsey Christensen, sending the Knights (14-9, 9-4 CCC) to the important conference victory.

Neither team found much headway in the first period as numerous shot attempts clanged harmlessly off the rim. Evergreen was meager 20 percent (6 of 30) from the field in the first half, while the Knights were not much better at 25 percent (7 of 28). Nichole Jackson hit a runner in the final moments to send WPC to the locker rooms with a 20-17 lead.

The squads found a little more success in the second half, and while Warner Pacific managed to build a five point advantage the Geoducks stayed close thanks to 12 points from Swain. Christensen tossed in 12 points of her own in the period and her layup put WPC up 46-43 with 4:39 to play. Evergreen scored the next four by way of a Swain deuce and the aforementioned free throws, setting up the clutch plays from Melissa Carey.

Christensen shook off a tough first half to finish with 16 points for Warner Pacific. Tori Carroll added 10 points, while Carey ended with a season high of eight points.

Game high honors went to Danielle Swain with 17 points for Evergreen, while Jessica Denmon grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.
