Knights Hold Off OIT on Senior Night

PORTLAND, Ore. - A trio of first half goals were just enough for Warner Pacific to outlast Oregon Tech 3-2 in the final home game for the Knights.

The Basics

Score: Warner Pacific 3, Oregon Tech 2
 Records: WPC (6-8-3, 5-7-1 CCC), OIT (2-14, 1-12 CCC)
 Location: Damazo Field, Portland, Ore.
The Short Story: Warner Pacific scored three first half goals, then held on for the win versus visiting Oregon Tech on Saturday night. The Knights were the dangerous team for the first 45 minutes, and were unlucky to not tack on a couple more. The visiting Owls persevered and found the net in the 60th minute to cut the Knight lead to a single goal, then threatened to equalize with several dangerous free kicks. WP held on to send their seniors away with a victory.

How it Happened

• Geovanny Vazquez got the Knights off to a dream start, scoring in the 2nd minute. The junior settled the ball after a failed clearance and fired in from 12 yards.
• Oregon Tech equalized just over 10 minutes later with a looping header from GeRysand Cabanilla.
• The Knights regained the lead in the 37th minute thanks to another tally from Vazquez who dribbled straight through the center of the pitch and hit a drive past the Owl keeper.
• Despite the pair of goals allowed, OIT netminder James Goheen made several clutch stops including consecutive saves on point blank chances from Andres Campos.
• Campos was not to be denied however, and the senior tucked a goal away in the 40th minute after a through pass from Ruben Amezcua.
• Warner Pacific continued to press for goals after halftime, and earned six corner kicks.
• The Owl defense held firm, and Nathan Wade gave the visitors hope with a 25 yard blast in the 60th minute.
Goalkeeper Joe White and the rest of the Knight defense turned away several free kick opportunities by OIT down the stretch to preserve the conference win.
• Seniors Andres Campos, Ruben Amezcua, and Almir Celebic were honored before the game.
