EOU Stifles Knights

PORTLAND, Ore. – Eastern Oregon used a stifling defense that frustrated all would-be scorers from Warner Pacific as the Mountaineers cruised past Knights, 78-44, tonight in Portland.

The Basics

Score: Eastern Oregon 78, Warner Pacific 44
 Records: EOU (18-5, 9-2 CCC), WPC (9-14, 2-8 CCC)
Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
The Short Story: Warner Pacific could not muster any offensive production versus a stingy EOU defense during a Cascade Conference home loss. The host Knights coughed up the ball 28 times and managed to shoot at just a 25% clip over the course of the game. The visiting Mounties were almost as careless with the ball (22 turnovers), but scored with a 54% efficiency to run away for the victory. Jordan Klebaum hit for a game high 22 points including five makes from distance to lead EOU. Daesha Jackson led WP with nine points as no Knights were able to break into double figures.

How it Happened

• The Knights lead very early by the score of 4-2, but watched EOU go on a 10-0 run to take control.
• WP battled to stay in the game, and were feeling good about their prospects after Lorena Torres made a pair of free throws to make the score 29-23 with 3:24 to play in the first half.
• EOU essentially put the game out of reach by closing the first period with a 13-2 run to lead 42-25 at the break.
• Warner Pacific's fortunes were no better in the second half, as Eastern scored the first 10 points of the period to break the game open.
• Any rally attempt from the Knights was doomed thanks to a 1 of 13 team effort from the three point line after halftime.

Notable

• Jenessa Bodine passed for a career high five assists.
