SOU Avoids Warner Pacific Upset Bid

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific gave 12th ranked Southern Oregon a bit of a scare, but ultimately fell to the Raiders three sets to one inside C.C. Perry Gym.   

The Basics

• Score: Southern Oregon 3, Warner Pacific 1 (25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 16-25)
• Records: WPC (8-10, 5-8 CCC), SOU (18-2, 11-2 CCC)
• Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Warner Pacific tallied a win in set one and enjoyed a 18-12 lead in set three as well, but couldn't hold off the 12th ranked Raiders in a four set defeat. WP attacked at a respectable .226 percentage, but gave up nine service aces during the loss.

How it Happened

• WP was the hot team in set one, jumping out to an 8-3 lead.
• The Raiders came back to tie the set at 23-23, but a block at the net by Janessa White and Nicole Lisoski followed by a kill from Lisoski gave WPC the set win.
• SOU responded with a wire-to-wire win in set two, though the Knights made it interesting by drawing to within 22-24.
• The host team sprinted out to a 18-12 lead in set three, and led 22-20 after an error by SOU.  
• Warner Pacific was still hoping to steal set three after SOU tied the frame at 23-23, but the Raiders finished it off with a kill by Tyana Andrews and a service ace. 
• Capitalizing on the momentum shift, SOU built an insurmountable 9-1 lead in set four. 
• WPC managed an 8-1 run towards the end of the set, but Corynn Kopra finally closed the door with a kill for SOU.
