Knights Put a Scare into Pilots at Chiles Center

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific women's basketball went toe-to-toe with University of Portland in an exhibition game held at the Chiles Center tonight in the first action for the Knights of the 2015-16 season.

The Basics

• Score: Portland 70, Warner Pacific 67 
• Records: WPC (0-0), UP (0-0)
• Location: Chiles Center, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Warner Pacific gave NCAA Div. I University of Portland all they could handle, but the Pilots claimed the comeback win at home thanks to a 9-0 run to finish the game. Kendra Preuninger scored 20 points in her debut, helping WPC build a 67-61 lead with 2:12 to play. The Knights would not score again however, and Corissa Turley hit a three pointer for UP with 12 seconds left that gave the Pilots the lead for good.  

How it Happened

• The visiting Knights were not intimidated by the environment and built a 19-12 lead in the first quarter. Preuninger splashed three makes from distance to pace WPC.
• The Pilots realized they were in for a fight, and responded by outscoring WP by nine in the second quarter and taking a 36-34 lead into the break..
• UP owned the third quarter as well, forging their largest lead of the game at 57-43.

• The fourth quarter saw the Knights heat up, making five three pointers in the period including two more from Preuninger which gave WP the aforementioned six point advantage.
• Corissa Turley proceeded to score seven straight points including the go-ahead three pointer to rescue the Pilots.
