ASHLAND -- The 10th-ranked Southern Oregon men's basketball team stretched its comeback limits a little further in Thursday night's battle for first place with Warner Pacific, overcoming an 18-point second-half deficit to pull out a 92-90 win at Mountain Avenue Gym.
The Raiders (13-3 overall, 6-0 Cascade Conference) and the Knights (9-5, 5-1) had been the only remaining unbeaten teams in CCC play entering the night. The Knights were in position to stay that way thanks to a 7-of-13 display from 3-point range in the first half, and
Keaton Bankofier's triple made it 65-47 with 15:48 remaining.
SOU's Kenny Meyer recorded career-highs of 18 points and five assists and made all three of his 3-point tries down the stretch, including a deep one that gave the Raiders their first lead since the opening moments at 87-86 with 1:32 left.
Earl Jones responded with a layup to take the lead back, but Ben DeSaulnier's basket-and-one in the paint with 32 seconds left put SOU up for good on the other end.
Jordan West led the Raiders with 26 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while DeSaulnier had 14 points and five assists.
SOU has trailed in the second half in five of its six CCC wins.
Taylor Young's 21 points and
De'Jon Bowman's 20 paced the Knights.
