Knights Defeat NU Behind Franky Johnson's 33 Points

PORTLAND, Ore. – Franky Johnson poured in 33 points to spark Warner Pacific to a 87-79 win over Northwest tonight in Cascade Conference play.

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 87, Northwest 79
• Records: WPC (5-4, 2-0 CCC), NU (4-6, 0-2 CCC)
• Location: Bart Valentine Court, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: A career night from Franky Johnson was the difference for Warner Pacific, and the Knights as a team shot 51% from the floor during the CCC win over the Eagles in Portland. Johnson was especially lethal in the first half, scoring 23 points which included a 5 of 5 effort from the three point line. WP rode that performance to a 46-34 advantage at halftime. Ben Tucakovic ranged inside and out to score 21 for NU, but the 12 point deficit could not be made up in the second half.

How it Happened
.
• It looked like it might be long night for Warner Pacific, as Northwest jumped out to a 9-0 lead with a quick trio of makes from distance.
• Fortunately for the Knights, Johnson was on fire from the start and two of his three point field goals helped WP tie the game at 13-13.
• Later in the first half, Johnson scored eight straight points to give WPC their largest lead up to that point (40-31).
• Taylor Young grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast, scoring at the buzzer to make the score 46-34 in favor of the home team at the break.
• Northwest did not back down, and began to find cracks in the Knight zone defense after halftime.
• Dak Shagren canned a trey with 2:37 on the clock to cut the WP lead down to six points (78-72).

• A 6-0 run at that point gave WP some breathing room, and the Knights made 5 of 6 tries from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
