Knights and Saints Battle to Draw

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific and Carroll College traded first period goals, then settled for a draw after two overtime periods in Cascade Conference men's soccer action today at Damazo Field.

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 1, Carroll 1
• Records: WPC (3-4-1, 1-1-1 CCC), CAR (3-3-1, 1-1-1 CCC)
• Location: Damazo Field, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: The Knights and Saints battled to a tie in CCC play today, and the soccer on the field was choppy to say the least - particularly after halftime.

How it Happened

• Carroll struck first against the run of play, as Isaac Bostrom headed home his own rebound in the 21st minute.
• A handball in the box by a Carroll defender gave WP the chance to equalize, but Saint keeper Connor Smith guessed correctly and turned away the attempt by Joe White.
• Energized by the save, Carroll began to get a foothold on the game but it was WPC's turn to find the net instead.

• Cesar Esquivel scored his fifth goal of the season in the 37th minute on an 18 yard laser that beat the Saint's keeper diving to his left.
• The second period began with chippy play from both sides and didn't let up. 42 fouls were called in the game, and eight yellow cards were issued.
• The Knights had a chance to win the game in regualtion, but Smith denied a 1-v-1 oppportunity by WP's Mario Guizar as time expired.
• Both overtime periods were uneventful save the numerous cautions.
