OIT Pulls Away from Warner Pacific in 4th Quarter

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific trailed by just four points at the end of the 3rd quarter, but watched Oregon Tech control the final stanza en route to a 70-57 loss to the Owls on Saturday night.

The Short Story

Oregon Tech closed out the game on a 15-5 run to break open a close game and slide past the Knights in Portland. Ashleigh Vandenbrink made 5 of 10 attempts from the three point line and ended the game with 17 points to pace the Owls.

WPC held a slim lead after one quarter (11-10), as both teams struggled from the field. Taylor Howlett scored five points for the Knights, while Vandenbrink canned two of her trey in the period.

The action picked up somewhat in the 2nd quarter, and OIT went into the locker room with a single basket advantage thanks to a Nohea Waiwaiole layup in the final seconds.

The teams continued to battle during the 3rd quarter, with the score deadlocked at 44-44 after Daesha Jackson scored on a putback with 1:01 on the clock. OIT took a 50-46 lead heading into the 4th quarter after Morgan Roberts connected on back-to-back layups.

In the deciding 10 minutes, Amari Hampton drained a shot from behind the arc with 7:49 to play to make the score 55-52 but the Knights could draw no closer. Vandenbrink's final three pointer gave OIT a 10 point lead with 2:38 remaining to effectively seal the outcome.

The Owls avenged a loss to the Knights from earlier in the season, and remain entrenched in 2nd place in the Cascade Conference standings after the 13-point win.

Howlett finished with a season highs of 23 points and seven steals to lead Warner Pacific.
