PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific built a 19 point lead in the second half, then withstood a furious comeback by Lewis & Clark to escape with a 94-93 win in the home opener for the Knights.
The first half belonged to Warner Pacific, as the Knights made 15 of 25 shots and took a 12 point lead into the break.
After
De'Corrius Sampson-Young drove to the lane for a layup at the 15:34 mark of the second half, WPC enjoyed a 63-44 advantage and looked to cruise to an easy win. The visiting Pioneers had other ideas, and mounted a charge behind four three-pointers from Kyle Owen. LC grabbed a one point lead (90-89) in the late stages on a trio of free throws from Andrew Vickers, but the Knights responded with five straight points and the final trey from Owens was too little, too late.
Bryce White led the way for WPC, pouring in 34 points on 11 of 16 shooting. Sampson-Young added 18 points, while
Keaton Bankofier pitched in with 13 points and three steals.
Owens and Cannen Roberson led five Pioneers in double figures with 16 points each.
