Vanguard Shoots Past WP, 87-52

PORTLAND, Ore – Vanguard used a dominant 3rd quarter to stop Warner Pacific 87-52, and earn a road non-conference win.

The host Knights were facing a tough challenge and looked ready to give the No. 6 ranked Lions a good run in the first half. After VU took a 19-10 lead in the 1st quarter, WPC went on a 13-5 run to close within a single point (24-23) with 5:28 to play in the half.

The Lions responded however, and closed the period by outscoring WP 14-3 and taking a comfortable 40-26 lead into the locker room.

The 3rd quarter was the deciding 10 minutes, as VU began to see their shot attempts fall while the Knights went cold. The 4th quarter started with the Lions holding a 67-37 advantage.

The final stanza was more evenly contested, but Warner Pacific could not find enough offense to make any sort of comeback.

The Lions received big performances from Maya Kennedy (26 points) and Claire Lamunu (24 points, 10 rebounds).

Warner Pacific was led by Kyeli Hendryx with 15 points and six rebounds.
