Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Knight Women Drop Home Game vs Corban

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific finally broke out of their shooting slump, but it came too late in a loss to Corban tonight in women's basketball action at Bart Valentine Court.

The host Knights connected on 46 percent of their field goal attempts - their best effort since December 30 - but Corban matched and surpassed that mark with 52 percent for the game in field goal tries.

The hot shooting is somewhat deceiving, as WPC mustered just seven points in the 1st quarter and trailed 19-7 after the first 10 minutes of play. The Knights improved dramatically in quarter number 2, tossing in 21 points but the visiting Warriors answered the challenge by scoring in the paint and from the outside to lead 42-28 at halftime. Corban made 6 of 10 three point attempts before the break.

In the 3rd quarter, WP came out firing and trimmed the deficit down to five points (51-46) after Taylor Howlett canned one of her four three pointers on the night. Corban responded with six straight points - five from Jade Lowery - to push the gap back out to 11 points heading into the final stanza.

The Knights made another run in the 4th quarter, cutting the lead down to a single basket (61-59) with 6:03 to play thanks to another trey from Howlett. The Warriors were again up to the task and scored eight unanswered to put the game out of reach. A key stat in the result was free throw shooting as Corban was 20 of 31 for the game while WPC attempted just five, making two.
