Knights Keep Rolling, Sweep Oregon Tech

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific Volleyball won their fourth match in a row, and third in straight sets with a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-21, 25-12) over Oregon Tech tonight in CCC play.  

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 3, Oregon Tech 0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-12)
• Records: WPC (5-2, 4-1 CCC), OIT (5-6, 1-4 CCC)
• Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Warner Pacific used a season high hitting percentage (.449) to down Oregon Tech tonight in a Cascade Conference match. The Knights swung for 42 kills versus just seven errors to achieve their most efficient attack of 2016. Oregon Tech hard a hard time gaining traction offensively, swinging for just 27 total kills and a .157 hitting percentage. WPC served over just six aces compared to eight from the visiting Owls, but numerous other serves from the Knights put pressure on the OIT back row. Janessa Mast led WP with 11 kills, while Janessa White racked up 10 kills without an error. OIT was led by nine kills from Bailey Nelson.   

How it Happened

• WPC broke open a close set one, taking a 21-15 lead thanks to 13 kills and no errors.
• Oregon Tech rallied with five straight points behind two blocks and consecutive aces to make the score 21-20.
• After OIT tied the score at 23-23 with another service ace, kills by Mast and White closed out the set for WP.
• Set two was again close early, but the Knights slowly pulled ahead with tough serving and an efficient attack.
• A winner from Kelsey Sampson drew OIT to within 21-18, but WP held off the challenge with two more kills from White and two errors by the Owls.
• Set three was all WPC, as the home team ripped out to a 10-3 lead and never looked back. 
• The Owls tried to regroup and chalked up three straight points, but would not score another offensive point the rest of the set.

Notable

• With six digs for the Match, Brandy Velasquez moved into #2 on the Warner Pacific career digs list with 928, surpassing Sam Kolakowski.
