Volleyball Cruises Past George Fox in Straight Sets

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific swept past George Fox in straight sets (25-10, 25-15, 25-19) in a non-conference matchup tonight in Portland.

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 3, George Fox 0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-19)
• Records: WPC (3-2), GFU (1-5)
• Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Warner Pacific defeated George Fox in straight sets tonight at C.C. Perry Gym. The Knights were in command from the beginning thanks to tough serving that befuddled the back row of the Bruin defense. Kealia Rosa had five services aces, while Brandy Velasquez added four and WP as a team finished with 13. GFU's serve reception improved as the match continued and the Bruins managed to tie the 3rd set 14-14. The Knights pulled away thanks to three kills from Janessa Mast and their two final service aces.

How it Happened

• The Knights got off to a fast start as the home team jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
• That lead expanded for the Knights to 10-1, and then 19-7 after Jordan Hunter's 3rd kill of the set. The Knights went on to take the first set, 25-10.
• The Knights continued the momentum into the second set, and scored seven-straight points to take a 13-3 lead.
• GFU fought back with a small run to bring the set within six (20-14), but the Knights answered with four-straight points - two from Velasquez aces - and went on to take the set, 25-15.
• The third and final set was a much closer game, with the Bruins taking an 11-10 lead after Danyle Dupray recorded a service ace.
• The score was tied at 14-14 but Warner Pacific scored three straight, and then held off the challenge from the visitors to claim 25-19 third set victory.
