PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific gave 11th ranked Corban a strong challenge tonight, settling for a 1-1 draw at Damazo Field.
The visiting Warriors had the edge in possession, but the WPC defensive line played a disciplined game and snuffed out any danger from open play attack. Corban took advantage of a set piece situation in the 57th minute, as Timur Zhividze curled his effort into the corner from 20 yards away.
The host Knights were able to get into the attacking third several times, and cashed in with 15 minutes left in regulation.
Seiya Takahashi played cross to the near post that found the head of
Kingsley Armah, who found his target and scored.
Moments later, Zhividze nearly struck again from a set piece but his free kick clanged off the post.
After an uneventful first overtime period, Warner Pacific had the upset in view as a penalty was awarded to the Knights in 107th minute.
Adam Aristo stepped up for the try, but Corban keeper Jordan Farr made the save to preserve the tie.
