PORTLAND, Ore. – A dominant first half by Warner Pacific was the deciding factor in a 93-71 win for the Knights over Walla Walla University today at Bart Valentine Court.
WPC (9-3, 4-0 CCC) sprinted out to a 12-1 lead and were never threatened. The visiting Wolves (5-7, 1-2 CCC) opened the game missing eight of their first 10 shots and committing nine turnovers on the way to a 28-5 deficit. WWU managed to find enough offense to make the score 45-29 with 1:09 left in the first half, but five points from
Josh Thomas in the final minute sent WPC into the locker room with a 50-31 advantage.
The second half played out mostly even, but the Knights extended their lead out to as many as 29 points (76-47). Walla Walla rallied at that point with a 14-1 run to close the gap to 77-61 with 6:05 to play. An 8-0 run in response by WPC set things back in order, and the Knights cruised to their fourth CCC win in as many games.
Montel Shirley and Khiry Williams were a menace on defense for WPC, with each making four steals and contributing a team total of 21 takeaways.
Shirley led the victors with 15 points, while
De'Jon Bowman,
Morris Bethea, and
Keaton Bankofier added 12 points each. Bowman grabbed a game high 12 rebounds.
Dinesh Brown paced the Wolves with 16 points and four assists.
