Another Five-Set Heartbreaker for WP Volleyball

PORTLAND, Ore. - For the second straight night, the Warner Pacific volleyball team fought to the end but came up short in a five-set match, this time versus Northwest in CCC action at C.C. Perry Gym.

Similar to the loss to Evergreen on Friday, WP finished with more kills than the visiting Eagles (69-65) but were done in by their 32 hitting errors.

Set one was a back and forth battle, but NU scored five of the last six points to claim the frame 25-20.

WPU came alive for sets two and three, winning both to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Knights finished off set two with a 7-1 run. Melisa Ljuca tallied five kills in the frame and the Eagles handed WP four points with service errors.

The key moment in set four came with the score tied at 15-15. Warner Pacific proceeded to score four points in a row with Claudia Hubbard at the service line. Lauren Jones helped finish off the frame with a kill and a block.

Northwest turned the tables for the rest of the match, turning to Keann White for offense. NU took set four fairly comfortably (25-19), then allowed for little doubt in the deciding frame by winning 15-8. White finished the match with 17 kills.

Ljuca continued her outstanding play with 19 more kills. Kealia Rosa did all she could with 45 assists and 17 digs. Audree Gormanson contributed 10 kills and 14 digs.
