Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific hosted cross-town rival Multnomah University on Tuesday night. The Knights came out victorious with a 25-8, 25-22 and 25-16, 3-0 victory over the Lions.
Â
This was the second time the Knights and the Lions faced off this season, the Knights were victorious on both occasions.
Â
The first set was dominated by the Knights, who managed to keep the Lions in the single digits. The second set was more even, as both teams exchanged points back and forth, before Coach Norquist called a time-out to gather his team and rally them back together. In the third and final set, the Knights came out on fire, forcing a quick Lions time-out after a 5-0 run. The Knights ultimately closed out the match in a quick 11-point victory.
Â
The win came on a special night for Warner Pacific; as the crowd was decked out and the gym was decorated in pink for "Dig Pink". Warner Pacific University Athletics partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Tonight's event hit especially close to home to the WPU community as our very own Tammy Johnson, wife of Head Wrestling Coach
Frank Johnson, is fighting invasive ductile carcinoma. Tonight, WPU gathered in support of the Johnson family.
Â
Offensively, the Knights were led by Junior OH
Grace Buchanan, who tallied 11 kills for WPU. On the defensive end,
Mercedes Massey led the Knights with 15 kills while
Matalasi Laban had 16 assists.
Â
The Knights will host Walla Walla University on Saturday night at 8pm.
