Ashland, Ore. | Warner Pacific faced off against the No. 5 Southern Oregon Raiders on Saturday night, but came up short in a quick 0-3 set, bringing them to 1-7 overall, and 0-4 in the CCC.
Â
The Raiders came out with a fire, going on a 4-0 run at four different times throughout the first set and the Knights were never quite able to catch up, as the Raiders booked a 25-14 victory.
Â
The second match had a better result despite the Knights giving SOU another 4-0 run right off the bat. Firing right back, WPU, thanks to a couple of Kills from their Middle Blockers, Hayley Yoder and
Lauren Jones, went on a 5-0 run to tie the set at 5-all. The set went back and forth before the Knights forced a timeout from SOU coach Josh Rohlfing after a 4-0 run put the Knights up 13-11. The Raiders seemed to get their act together and clinched the victory 25-19.
Â
Set three looked as though it was going to be much like the first as the Raiders began the game with yet another 4-0 run, but the Knights clawed their way back exchanging points with the Raiders, and ultimately taking the lead after two Service Aces by Senior
Margie Brammer. WPU came within one at 21-22, but ultimately the Raiders were able to seal the match with three straight points to close out the 25-21 victory.
Â
Haley Yoder led the Knights with eight kills on the night, followed by
Macy DuCoeur's seven.
Â
The Knights will play in-town rival Multnomah next Saturday, September 21. The match is set for 5 PM.
