Warner Pacific opened up Cascade Collegiate Conference play at home Friday night, facing a very strong and big front line of Northwest University.
Â
Despite WPU's defensive effort, the Eagles dominated majority of the stat sheet. The Knights were no match for the Middle Blockers of the Eagles, who racked up 13 blocks on the night. On the other side of the net, the Eagles swung for 37 kills, ten better than the Knights. Â
Â
NU was hot out of the gate tallying up a quick 3-0 run before the Knights forced an attack error. The Knights battled throughout the first set when Sr.
Lauren Jones came out with a monster kill to bring the Knights within one before the Eagles ultimately claimed the 25-15 victory.
Â
Set two opened up with two Knights kills before NU took over, going on an 8-0 run to take and eventually seal the set at 25-14.
Â
With one more chance to avoid a sweep, Seniors
Lauren Jones and
Haley Yoder brought their experience and leadership to the table in the third set going on a 3 Kill run. WPU fought throughout the set but came up short and NU was able to complete the sweep and wrap up Night 1 of CCC opening weekend.
Haley Yoder led both teams with 10 Kills.
The back row was held together by
Mercedes Massey and
Rylee Sneath, both making six digs.
Â
NU's Kylie Szczepansk lead all players with seven blocks.
