Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific was unable to complete the upset as the Knights were downed by the No. 3 College of Idaho Coyotes 87-66 on Saturday night.
Â
The Knights, who struggled to score the ball in last night's loss to Eastern Oregon, proved otherwise on Saturday night. Well, at least
Miles Brown did. Brown was the only offense for the Knights in first 10 minutes of play. The Junior out of Sandy, Oregon dominated with the ball in his hand, scoring 16 of the team's 19 point while shooting 7-8 from the field before first media timeout at the 10:38 mark. The only other Warner Pac member to score was
JD Esters, who contributed three points.
Â
As Brown began to cool off and the Yotes were able to find a rhythm, it began to become clear why they're the No. 3 team in the nation. The team was 50% from the arch, and shot 54% overall.
Â
Once more members of the Knight squad started to find their offensive rhythm, Warner Pacific hung in there with the Yotes for the first half, heading into the break trailing by ten.
Â
At the start of the second half,
Kaleb Tompkins started to convert offensively and keep the lead in single digits but the Yotes responded with a 6-point run to eventually extend the lead to their largest of the game in 15. It was smooth sailing for C of I from that point on and the buzzer eventually sounded at a 21 point lead. Â
Â
The Knights did win the turnover battle, though as Warner Pac only managed to turn the ball over twelve times as opposed to the Yotes' 17. Â Warner Pacific shared the ball well too, assisting on 21 of their 27 made field goals.
Â
Brown finished the game with 21 points and seven rebounds.
JD Esters finished with 12 points and seven assists and
Kaleb Tompkins finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Â
College of Idaho's Ricardo Time ended the game with 15 points and five rebounds while Talon Pinckney finished with 12 points and grabbed four boards.
Â
The Knights will head to The Evergreen State College on Friday February 7
th with a tip-off scheduled for 7:30.
