Kirkland, Wash. | The Warner Pacific Men's Soccer team (10-2-1) moved into the double-digit wins territory for the season on Friday night, as they bested the Northwest University Eagles (7-5-2, 3-4-2) by a final of 3-1.
A dominate first half by the Knights determined the outcome of today's match, primarily thanks to another game-winning goal by senior forward
Arturo Bahena, just over seven minutes into the game. Knights' junior forward
Hunter Leach connected with Arturo for the third goal of the week that they've both been involved in, the first two coming off the foot of Leach on a couple of beautiful finds from Bahena in their match Tuesday against Saint Martin's University.
Right before the end of the first half, WPU was granted a free kick from just outside the left side of the penalty box. As the ball was crossed and lost in between the legs of multiple Knights and Eagles players, the ball somehow found the back of the net and was deemed an own goal by the Eagles.
Determined to put this one out of reach, senior defender
Mauricio Sanchez scored on another assist from who else, but
Arturo Bahena. Sanchez earned his second goal of the year, while Bahena added once again to his conference assist and points leaderboard.
With desperation mode starting to settle in for the Eagles, forward Jonathan Toscano squeezed one by the diving reach of Knights' senior goalkeeper
Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado, who despite allowing the solo goal, earned his 7
th win of the season for Warner Pacific. Eagles' forward Brayden Corwin and defender Frederik Marten were both credited with assists on the play.
The Warner Pacific Men's Soccer team is back on the field tomorrow afternoon against The Evergreen State College Geoducks in Olympia, Wash., where they hope to continue their quest for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Title at 12:30pm PST.
