Knights Secure 11th Win of Season on VanCleave’s Game-Winner

Olympia, Wash. | After back-to-back multi-goal games for the Warner Pacific Men's Soccer team (11-2-1, 7-1-1), one goal is all they needed today to be victorious over The Evergreen State College Geoducks (4-7-2, 4-4-2), with a final box score of 1-0.

Anyone familiar with the WPU Men's Soccer team knows today's lone scorer is not new to finding success within the Cascade Collegiate Conference (2020 Defensive Player of the Year). With just his second goal of the year, senior defender and Knights' captain Hunter VanCleave provided the Knights with their 7th conference win of the year, keeping them competitive atop the conference standings.

Defensively for Warner Pacific, senior goalkeeper Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado secured his 4th shutout of the year, which ties him for 2nd place in the conference on the season leaderboard. Only 2 saves on the day for Calderilla-Hurtado thanks to VanCleave and the rest of the resolute Knights defensive front, who only allowed 5 total shots from the Geoducks.

Knights' senior midfielder Alex Nana picked up his 2nd assist on the season with his cross to VanCleave in the 56th minute of the match. Senior forward Arturo Bahena was held scoreless for just the 6th time in 14 games this season, but managed 8 shots in today's contest, 4 of which were on goal.

Evergreen State midfielder Lucas Alcala led the Geoducks offensively with 2 of the 5 total shots, and goalkeeper Colin Hauser nabbed 11 saves against a heavy hitting Knights' offense.

The Warner Pacific Men's Soccer team will head home for a short break, but a flight east awaits them as they will travel to play Rocky Mountain College and the University of Providence this upcoming Friday and Saturday (October 22nd & 23rd). Both games are slated to start at 1pm MST (12pm PST), and will be the Knights' last road trip of the season before senior weekend.
