Kirkland, Wash. | As the Warner Pacific University Women's Soccer team (3-7, 2-5) had just started to pick up the pace in conference play, they faced an offensive setback Friday afternoon with a 0-5 loss against the host team Northwest University Eagles (5-6-3, 4-2-2).
After back-to-back shutouts by the WPU defensive unit, led by senior defender and captain
Gaby Bowman, the Knights were unable to stymie the Eagles' stout offensive presence. Warner Pacific notched five shots, two of which were on goal, and both of which came from senior forwards
Ciel McDonald and
Miki Dart.
Warner Pacific Head Coach
Josh Westermann made a goalie change at halftime in hopes of a turnaround effort, but both senior goalkeepers
Isabell Bauer and
Makenna McClellan faced the daunting task of facing a hungry Eagles' barrage, who brought in 8 total saves as a first half/second half pairing.
For Northwest, midfielder Claire Jo Diede scored twice and assisted on another, while fellow midfielder Kayla Soderstrom completed the inverse of her teammate with one goal and two assists. Both of Soderstrom's assists were tied to Diede's two goals, making them a dynamic combo tonight for the Eagles.
Warner Pacific Women's Soccer will next face-off against The Evergreen State College Geoducks tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm PST, hoping to get back into the win column once again.
