Women’s Volleyball Takes Set on the Road Versus #13 Mountaineers, Drops Game in Four Sets

La Grande, Ore. | Taking an impressive set win tonight was the Warner Pacific University Women's Volleyball team (1-19, 1-16), who stole a set against the #13 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (20-5, 15-2) in route to a four-set loss on Eastern Oregon's home court, 10-25, 20-25, 26-24, 12-25.

After a quick set one, the Knights scratched and clawed back into set two with multiple rallies to creep back up and attempt to take the set from EOU, but were unable to do so before the Mountaineers cashed that 25th point, and sent it to a third set.

A late-set rally by both teams proved to be the equalizer in set three, as both teams were tied at 24 points each before senior outside hitter Grace Buchanan and senior setter Matalasi Laban connected for back-to-back points, notching the 26-24 win.

Once the Mountaineers suffered their first set to the Knights of the season, Eastern Oregon kicked it up a notch in the fourth and final set, as they held Warner Pacific to a negative kill% to close this match out.

Buchanan continued to grow her conference lead in kills tonight with an additional 16 kills over the four sets played for a game-high mark, while also playing a critical role in the defensive efforts for the Knights with a team-high 9 digs. Sophomore setter Jaliza Lazaro followed Buchanan defensively with 8 digs, and offensively led the Knights with 3 service aces.

EOU middle blocker Jet Taylor, who dropped a team-high 10 kills and game-high 6 blocks over the Knights, led the Mountaineers up front with a commanding 22-4 team-blocking ratio. Hauling in a game-high 20 digs tonight defensively for Eastern Oregon was libero Hailey Arritola, who currently leads the conference in the aforementioned statistical category.

A quick trip over the Oregon-Idaho border is in store for the Knights as they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to face the College of Idaho Yotes tomorrow night at 7pm PST, their last road game before they return home for Senior Day Weekend.
