Geoducks Keep Knights at Bay

PORTLAND | With another new face on roster, the Warner Pacific University Women's Volleyball team (1-14, 1-11) was unable to come through with the Friday night Homecoming weekend victory, dropping tonight's contest in straight sets to The Evergreen State College Geoducks (6-7, 6-6), 19-25, 18-25, 17-25.

Senior outside hitter Savannah Proske found the floor tonight in her first game as a member of the Warner Pacific Volleyball squad. Despite only recording a handful of stats with the short leash from Head Coach Nels Norquist, Proske looked comfortable enough out there to hold her own against a very underrated Evergreen State squad who has knocked off and played well against some of the tougher Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents.

Two different Knights recorded double-doubles in tonight's loss, starting with senior setter Matalasi Laban, who dished out 26 assists across the board for Warner Pacific, and also defending a team-high 12 digs from the lofty Geoduck front court. Senior outside hitter Grace Buchanan recorded another double-double on the season with 12 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Tevlin Britten swung a hot hand tonight, resulting in a game-high 14 kills on 30 attempts, resulting in a .333 kill% after accounting for the 4 errors.

For Evergreen State, outside hitter Zoe Shaw did it all, and was the only Geoduck to record a double-double on the evening, dealing 13 kills and 14 digs while subtly assisting 4 times through the 3 sets played, and tagging on 3 services aces to top it all off. Defensively speaking, Geoducks libero Sage Burgmeier accounted for a game-high 18 digs, and middle blocker Hannah Rongen did exactly what her position was made for, stopping the Knights' offense with 6 blocks.

The Knights return to action tomorrow night when they play the Northwest University Eagles (7-10, 6-6) at C.C. Perry Gym at 5pm PST to cap off Homecoming weekend, and then prepare for a long two-week conference road trip.
