PORTLAND | For the first time in 16 years, the Warner Pacific University Knights men's soccer program has a record of 7-1. The team scored four goals in the second half to overcome a 0-2 deficit to the Northwest Eagles. The Bahena Brothers, Arturo and Christian, played a role in all but one of the four goals.
"Thankfully matches consist of two halves" said Knights head coach
Troy Ready. "In the first half, our self-imposed mistakes put us in a difficult situation down 2-0. The response, however, from the team was inspiring and a sign of character important for any successful team" he added.
Â
Moving to 3-1 in conference play, and with three more weeks of games, the Knights sit at the No. 2 spot in the CCC West Division. "We need to keep building on this momentum heading into more conference matches on the road" said Ready.

The Rundown
After the sudden victory by Warner Pacific just a day ago, the Eagles came out with vengeance, getting on the board quick with an early goal in just the 3
rd minute of the game.
Â
Not too long after, the Eagles capitalized on a Knights backline miscommunication to send the game into intermission with a 2-0 lead.
Â
Something sparked the Warner Pacific squad at halftime. The Knights came out with a fire in their bellies. Moving with controlled urgency, the Knights found themselves with possession more often than not.
Â
In just the 48
th minute, the Bahena Brothers,
Arturo Bahena and
Christian Bahena, played a little game of two-man-weave through the Northwest defense. Weaving in out of gaps,
Arturo Bahena sent a perfect touch pass to brother Christian for the finish, and the Las Vegas native had cut the lead to one with an entire half to be played.
Â
Just a short time later, the rolls reversed. This time,
Christian Bahena sent a beautiful through ball across the field to the feet of Arturo for Arturo to do what he does best; one quick touch to advance the defender, cut back and strike it. With 30 minutes to play, the game was tied at 2.
Â
Shortly thereafter,
Alex Nana was fouled in the Penalty Box, giving the Knights the chance for the go-ahead goal with just over 20 minutes to play. None other than
Nick Evans took the PK to take the lead. For the next 20 minutes, the Knights just needed to maintain control of the ball with composure.
Â
With a few slight scares, Warner Pacific keeper
Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado came up big with six saves.
Â
With the clock winding down and it looking like the Knight would skim a victory from the Eagles,
Arturo Bahena found himself all alone with the defender on the right side. The junior took the ball down the line, cut towards the middle and fired one off leaving the Eagles keeper doing the splits.
As the bench ran to the corner flag to hoist Bahena up, the Knights could smell the comeback victory and the final horn sounded.
Â
The team moves to 7-1 on the season and stays in the No. 2 spot in the CCC West.
