Volleyball Battles to Bitter End, Drops Non-Conference Friendly Match with Multnomah University

For Immediate Release – August 27th, 2021

PORTLAND | The Warner Pacific Women's Volleyball team traveled ten minutes north to face off in a non-conference friendly match against fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference opponent, Multnomah University, where some early miscues from the Knights proved to be too much to overcome, with the home team Lions taking this one in four sets, 19-25, 15-25, 25-16, and 22-25.

Despite a great road-game showing of Knights alumni & fans at Jim Skagen Court, costly mistakes and unforced errors left them looking for more, as the Knights were just unable to get much going in the first two sets of today's match. However, for a young team that is still discovering their team chemistry and opportunities alongside one another, the upperclassmen stepped up and provided the leadership and encouragement needed to get back into this contest in the third set.

The Knights offense sparked to life that very next set, as the team jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back. Even when Multnomah attempted to generate a comeback of their own, the Warner Pacific defense stood tall and closed it out to force a fourth set.

In the end, avoidable missteps on the Knights' side of the court provided the Lions with the opportunities they needed to put this game to rest. Multnomah outside hitter Danae Stokes led the Lions with 20 kills and a .239 kill% offensively, while libero/defensive specialist Rayesa Efimov tallied 17 digs in the contest.

Leading the charge for Warner Pacific on both offense and defense was outside hitter Grace Buchanan, who totaled 16 kills and 19 digs. Setter Matalasi Laban was credited with 18 assists in today's loss, with an additional 5 kills of her own.

The Knights return to action next Wednesday, September 1st, when they travel to NCAA DIII George Fox University in Newberg, Ore. for a 6pm start time.
