Knights Show Improvement Against NCAA George Fox University, But Ultimately Drop Match in Four Sets

Newberg, Ore. | After a somewhat somber outing last week against cross-town conference partner Multnomah University, the Warner Pacific University Women's Volleyball team showed some improvement in areas they struggled with last game, as they forced four sets against NCAA DIII George Fox University on the road, losing 3-1 and dropping to 0-2 overall.

Despite going down 0-1 in the match after a back and forth first set, the Knights recomposed themselves and came out swinging in set two, where the team collectively held a .312 kill%. Warner Pacific and Head Coach Nels Norquist were feeling the momentum shift perfectly in their favor, as they were able to capitalize on George Fox's numerous errors in the second set.

However, the Bruins had other ideas for how tonight would end, and made quick work of the Knights in the third set, winning 25-13, and capping off the night with a 25-20 fourth set to close this one out. George Fox had multiple players with double digit kills, including outside hitters Kassandra Staton and Addison Robertson, who had 12 kills each.

For the Knights, outside hitter Grace Buchanan once again led the team in kills with 18, and added two assist on the night. Freshman Sabah Mohammady commanded the backcourt tonight for Warner Pacific, accounting for 11 of the 37 team digs, and adding six aces on an evening where she was electric from the service line.

The Knights will regroup over the next 24 hours before they set off to begin Cascade Collegiate Conference play at Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash. That game is set to begin at 7pm this Friday night (9/3/21).
