Despite Fresh Faces, Knights Swept by Lions on Rivalry Night

PORTLAND | Even after adding two new players to the Warner Pacific University Volleyball team (0-8, 0-5) roster earlier this week for added depth, the Knights were unable to come away with a victory against cross-town rival Multnomah University (2-4, 1-4), losing tonight's match in straight sets, 22-25, 18-25, 14-25.

What seemed like fairly evenly matched teams at the beginning quickly fell flat, as the 1st set featured multiple back and forth rallies by both the Lions and Knights, but started to lean in the favor of Multnomah late in the set, which helped carry their momentum into sets two and three.

An injury to a Knights player resulted in more playing time for the newly signed freshmen, middle blockers Makayla Jenkins and Bobbi Clark, but ultimately the lack of play-calling knowledge and team cohesion with such newly signed players left the Knights with a bitter taste in their mouth at the end of the night.

Freshman libero Sabah Mohammady set a career-high with 16 digs in tonight's match, as well as all of the Knights' service aces (2) along the way. Offensively for the Knights, senior outside hitter Grace Buchanan continues to lead this young Knights offense with 14 kills, while adding 4 additional digs of her own.

The Lions defense was led by senior libero Alyssa Mehalovich, who reeled in 19 kills on the night. The junior teammates of outside hitter Danae Stokes and opposite hitter Jocelynn Porter each accounted for 7 kills, while Stokes managed to do so with only one error, carrying a .429 kill% through tonight's match.

The Knights will look to get some practice in with the newly acquired freshmen the rest of this week in preparation for their upcoming conference games this weekend against The College of Idaho (Friday @ 7pm PST) and Eastern Oregon University (Saturday @ 5pm PST), right back here at C.C. Perry Gym on Warner Pacific University campus.
