PORTLAND | In the Knight's lowest scoring match of the season, the Warner Pacific University Men's Soccer team (4-1, 1-0) defeated the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (0-4, 0-1) in a match where opportunities to score came far and few between, but the Knights eked out of this one with a 1-0 victory to begin conference play.
Scoring for the Knights tonight was senior defender
Mauricio Sanchez, who was assisted on the play by senior forward
Arturo Bahena. Just 8 minutes into the second half, Bahena shot an absolute scorching cross from the right side of the penalty box, where he found Sanchez for the volley into the upper right corner of the net.
Leading the Knights to another shutout in goal was goalkeeper
Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado, who picks up his 3
rd win of the season behind only 2 saves on 5 total shots for the Mountaineers. Seniors
Hunter VanCleave,
Kai Flugel,
Brandon Medrano, and Miguel Andalon-Cruz continue to set the pace defensively for Warner Pacific, who have allowed just 3 goals in five games so far this season.
The Knights bounce back for an early morning game tomorrow against The College of Idaho Yotes at 11am PST, who's coming off an early game win today against Multnomah University, and look to challenge the Knights offensively in what will for sure be a great challenge for both clubs.
