PORTLAND | Strong showings in the first two sets from the young Warner Pacific University Women's Volleyball team (0-10, 0-7) proved to not be enough tonight, as they fell in three sets to the #14 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (11-4, 6-1) by score of 19-25, 18-25, 2-25.
After struggling to find consistency over the last few games, the Knights jumped out to a fast start in set one tonight, where they swapped lead changes back-and-forth for a majority of the set before Eastern Oregon managed to connect on multiple scoring plays in a row to send this one to the second set.
The Knights continued that offensive push into the next set, where they once again found themselves in this game rally after rally. However, around the midway point of set two, the Mountaineers decided enough was enough, and silenced the Knights for the remainder of the night.
With 16 kills, senior outside hitter
Grace Buchanan was the game-high scorer of the evening, while sophomore outside hitter
Tevlin Britten led the team defensively with 10 digs, and added 5 kills of her own to the Knights stat totals.
Eastern Oregon's freshman setter Alexis McMurtrey dished out 30 assists to her team that only had 8 attacking errors on the night, and added 7 digs in the back court as well. Freshman libero Hailey Arritola led the game with 20 digs, and junior outside hitter Breanna Shafer nearly had a double-double with 9 kills and 11 digs.
Warner Pacific will have a week to rest and prepare for their next slate of conference games, beginning on Friday when they travel to Lewiston, Idaho to battle the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors starting at 7pm PST, then bounce back to play the Walla Walla University Wolves in College Place, Wash. the following night at 9pm PST.
