Knights Blow By Wolves in Friday Afternoon Conference Contest

PORTLAND | Putting up a season-high eight goals today was the Warner Pacific University Men's Soccer team (6-1, 3-0), who got off to an insanely fast start to ice this one early against the Walla Walla University Wolves (0-4-1, 0-3), with a final score of 8-2.

Scoring early and often for the Knights was senior forward Arturo Bahena, who doubled his goal totals with an additional 4 in today's contest, now reaching 8 on the season. Bahena has now scored or assisted on 9 of the Knights' 20 goals this season, paving the way to victory with his senior leadership. Senior defender Juan Gudino assisted Arturo on his first goal of the day by finding him on a leading cross about 10 yards out from the right goal post, where Arturo finished into the back left corner of the net.

Knights' Head Coach Troy Ready was excited to see Bahena continue to execute offensively for the Knights, but focused more so on the Knights' deep bench rotation getting some well-deserved turf-time today. "Arturo had another great outing and was excellent in finishing his chances. It was also good for us to get several players some needed match minutes as we continue playing back-to-back conference weekends," Ready explained.

Adding to the Knights' point total today was senior defender Hunter VanCleave, who put away a penalty kick opportunity just two minutes into the second half against Wolves' goalkeeper Kudzai Mhondiwa. VanCleave was not the only first-time goal scorer of the season, as Knights' forward Brennan Murphy, midfielder Alex Nana, and midfielder Luke Wagener all got in on the scoring action and had their first goals of the season against the Wolves.

Scoring in the second half of this game for the Wolves was junior midfielder Pedro Reyes and junior forward Davis Nordby. Reyes also picks up an assist for Nordby's goal, both of which came in the second half against Knights' substitute goalkeeper Luis Hernandez.

Tomorrow night, the Knights will host their last home game until the back half of the conference season, as they host the Carroll College Saints (1-3, 1-1) at 4:30pm PST back atEastside Timbers Sports Complex, in what will surely be a great weekend matchup.
