PORTLAND, Ore.| The Knights fell in a hard-fought game to local rival Multnomah in their Tuesday night matchup 25-16, 25-22, 25-21.
The Lions jumped out to a big lead in the first set, at one point leading 17-7. The Knights dug deep and countered with a few rallies of their own, but it proved to be too little. Multnomah would go on to close out the first set by a score of 25-16.
After the loss in the first set, Warner tightened up. The Knights and Lions went back and forth throughout the first half of the second set, with neither team getting more than a two-point lead. With Warner up 13-12, momentum suddenly shifted in favor of the Lions.
Multnomah was able to score six consecutive points, including four consecutive aces from Serina Haneburg, to give the Lions their biggest lead of the set at 18-13.
More back and forth action brought the game to 24-19 for Multnomah. With their back against the wall, Warner was put up three consecutive points thanks to a Multnomah attack error and two kills from Kaytlin Campbell. Warner was stopped short of a full comeback, however, and Multnomah was able to take the second set 25-22.
The final set featured some more tightly contested action. The Lions held the lead for nearly the entire set, but Warner fought and kept things close, even gaining a 20-19 lead over Multnomah late in the set. Things ultimately didn't go Warner's way, however. The Lions were able to close out with a 6-1 run to take the final set 25-21 and win the match.
Top performances from the Knights include Tevlin Britten who led the team with 12 kills and had a .290 hitting percentage. Sabah Mohammady led the team with 17 digs on the night, and London Starley led the team with 18 assists.
The loss drops Warner to 1-15 on the season. The Knights are in action next on Oct. 21 in a home matchup against College of Idaho.
