Knights Rain Down Goals, Earn 9-0 Win Over Providence

PORTLAND, Ore.| It was raining goals during Warner Pacific's 9-0 victory over Providence on Friday.

The precipitation and relatively cooler temperatures didn't rain on the Knights' scoring parade to open the game. If you blinked you would've missed it as Andrew Martinez got things going by scoring the opening goal within the first minute of play.

Martinez then followed up on his opening goal by scoring again, this time in the fourth minute. The two goals for Martinez bring his season total to 24, which is good enough for 5th all-time in the CCC for most goals in a season.

Hunter Leach scored the first of his two goals in the 8th minute off of an assist from Andrew Martinez to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. Martinez also dished out an assist to Alain Murhula who scored a minute later, and within the first 10 minutes of play, the Knights held a 4-0 lead.

Hunter Leach then recorded his second goal of the day on an absolute screamer from the edge of the box into the top of the net, beyond the outstretched arms of Providence's keeper. With Leach's goal, the Knights scored on five of their first six shots to open the game, and got out to a 5-0 lead in under 20 minutes.

Shortly after Leach's second goal, Head Coach Troy Ready turned to the talent on his bench for the rest of the game.

The game remained 5-0 until the 72nd minute when Alexander Rivera-Moreno got his first goal of the season. After that, the floodgates opened again, and more Knights got in on the scoring party.

Antonio Cipriano quickly earned two assists as time was winding down, dishing up the ball for Joel Gonzalez and Nicholas Taugher who both scored within the last ten minutes of the game. Before it was all said and done, Brian Canela scored a goal to bring the game to its final score of 9-0.

Amidst all the Warner offense, the Knights held Providence to only three shots on the game.

The win brings the Knights to 15-0 on the year. Men's soccer is in action next Oct. 22 for Senior Night when they host Rocky Mountain College.
